The American Diabetes Association reports that diabetes affects 14.3 million Americans aged 65+, or 26.8% of the older population.
ACCESSMed Foundation helps Arizona’s vulnerable seniors take advantage of Medicare and AHCCCS Medicaid diabetes health insurance options.
Insurance Cost
In Arizona, Chronic Special Needs health insurance is available for seniors, and other Medicare eligible individuals, who have been diagnosed with diabetes by a licensed medical practitioner. Subject to the specific special needs plans that are available in your county, the cost can vary from no cost (for AHCCCS Medicaid eligible seniors) to low cost (for seniors who have too much income to qualify for AHCCCS Medicaid but are nonetheless living on a limited income).
For seniors who have both Medicare and AHCCCS Medicaid, most of the costs of participating in a Diabetic Medicare Chronic Special Needs plan will be covered by federal and state governments. For seniors who do not qualify for AHCCCS Medicaid, the cost will depend on the Medicare Advantage plan selected.
