The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that, among men and women age 60 and older, the prevalence of hypertension (e.g. high blood pressure) is 63.1%.

ACCESSMed Foundation helps vulnerable seniors take advantage of Medicare and Medicaid high blood health insurance options for treating hypertension.

Insurance Cost

Chronic Special Needs health insurance is available for seniors, and other Medicare eligible individuals, who have been diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) by a licensed medical practitioner. Subject to the plans that are available in your county, the cost can vary from no cost (for AHCCCS Medicaid eligible seniors) to low cost (for seniors who have too much income to qualify for AHCCCS Medicaid but are nonetheless living on a limited income).

For seniors who have both Medicare and AHCCCS Medicaid, most of the costs of participating in a Medicare Chronic Special Needs plan will be covered by federal and state governments. For seniors who do not qualify for AHCCCS Medicaid, the cost will depend on the Medicare Advantage plan selected.

Insurance Benefits

Chronic Special Needs health insurance plans provide all of the services that the federal government requires for Medicare Advantage plans. Many plans also provide additional coverage that may include zero monthly premiums and low or no cost primary physician and specialist visits. Some plans also provide coverage for hearing services, vision, dental, mental health, skilled nursing, physical therapy, transportation, pharmaceuticals, home health services, over the counter health products, routine foot care and wellness programs. And, some Medicare Chronic Special Needs plans also provide a care coordinator who helps plan members get the right care, at the right time, from the right providers.

The types of health insurance plans available for seniors and other Medicare enrolled individuals with high blood pressure vary from county to county. They also may change from year to year. Detailed information about high blood pressure health insurance is available from, the official U.S. Government website for Medicare.
